ECOLOGY
THE STUDY OF ORGANISMS AND THEIR ENVIRONMENT
Why study it?
Ecologists learn about the interactions between, and the conservation and management of plants, animals and their environments.
Ecology is for anyone who takes an interest in conserving and understanding the world around them. In particular an ecologist will be interested in looking at how ecosystems work, and how they can be maintained, and the effects of interactions between these ecosystems and introduced species and humans.
Career options.
An ecologist can find employment in a number of fields, including environmental impact assessment, natural resource management and ecology restoration. Ecologists may also find work as environmental officers, researchers, teachers or park naturalists.
Where to study.
There are many universities across the country with strong ecology programs, these are just some of your options.
